One Thin Line
Ok, it may be anywhere from a little down from the top and/or up from the bottom. This is a vertical deflection problem. Most of the time this is a failure of one to three capacitors, however vertical deflection ICs are not uncommon.
There are many things that can cause problems that look the same.
Many TVs use the same power supply for the vertical deflection and audio circuits. Therefore a failure in the audio section can cause the fusible resistors in this power supply to fail; the symptom might then be no picture and no sound. At first you might think the TV is dead.
Murphy's Law applies. Something else is wrong with your set.
