Bad CRT?

Many people call asking how much a picture tube costs. The answer is as much as the set. Common problems that people think are bad tubes are:

1. Black screen
2. Dark picture
3. Bright screen
4. Picture too small
5. Picture too tall
6. One thin line
7. Bad color
8. Color swirls
9. Dead set

While some of these can be bad picture tubes that is not usually the case. Bad crts tend to have bad color with either red, green or blue prominent, but again, many things can cause that, too, such as bad power supplies or broken solder connections. It seems to me that 12 years is not unreasonable for a picture tube.
